When BY TERRY created this nourishing balm back in 2003, the brand had no idea it would gain cult classic status so quickly. A favorite of Parisian models and Hollywood actresses, the daily essential plumps and soothes chapped lips with a blend of precious actives. Pure rose essential wax smoothes away roughness, while shea butter doubles the formula's moisturizing powers, bio-ceramides undo the look of fine lines, and lipid spheres help skin retain hydration. Plus, it also works as a luxe nail treatment for dry cuticles.
I'm a bit of a lip balm buff, so I was really excited about trying this. The price is crazy steep, so I waited to purchase it until I could get it for $20 + oodles of Birchbox points. I can't say I'd purchase it again. While it lasts for a really long time and feels quite good while it's on, it didn't do any of the miraculous lip healing it claimed in the description. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and my lips still feel the same level of chapped when it has worn off. I use a nice thick coating of it every night, and I reapply it every morning. When I have it nearby I apply it during the day as well. Definitely not worth $60 in my opinion.3
Well...I'd heard the amazing reviews on this lip baum and desperately wanted to try it out. Upon opening the cap, the first thing I noticed was the strong scent of artificial roses. I'm a migraineur so it was not a smell that agrees with me. The product is creamy and easy to apply. It's definitely hydrating but it seems about as good as a quality chapstick that I could purchase at Whole Foods for $5.00. I do not feel as though it is worth spending $59.00 for this product. It is hydrating however, there is no wow factor on this. I prefer using Jason's vitamin D oil right on my lips, it's just as good for $10.00.
So... I don't dislike it per say, but I don't love it either. For $59.00 I have to love it to buy it again.
I was skeptical of this product at first because it was a total impulse buy. And after wondering if I just wasted sixty dollars I finally tried it and I can't get enough!! Before this I was a carmex and burts bee's kinda girl, but now all I ever want to use is my baume de rose! The only flaw this product has is the price 60 dollars! Outrageous! I'm a high school student on a tight budget (saving for a car) and the only reason I bought it in the first place was because I got a discount that made it only 40 and thought might as well, but I think the product will last me awhile so for this reason I will probably purchase again.5
So, know you have to practically sell a kidney to afford this, but it is amaze-balls. I rarely buy lip balm twice (I'm too much of a junkie to not want to try something new every time) but I'm on my second jar. There will be a third and fourth, no doubt. I use it mostly at night - the scent is very relaxing and it gives my lips a nice coat to get through the night. But I did decant a portion into a smaller, empty container and I've been carrying it in my purse for lip emergencies. This is one of those luxuries you owe yourself.5
I received a sample of this, and I had to buy it. I get very chapped, bloody lips most of the year, with little reprieve no matter how much water I drink, or what I use as a balm. I put on chaptstick frequently, avoid lipstick, at night I would use a Vaseline/petroleum based balm, and that helped, but I could not use any lipstick or cover with color, as the pigment just made my lips look awful. I found some relief with the Elizabeth arden 8 hr Vaseline like product, but still not great. I immediately noticed an improvement after trying this from by terry. And yes, I did buy the full size, though from dermstore, as they often have a 20% off promo that will work. I think after tax, it was about 42 dollars. It is a good sized product. Every morning and night I put a thick coating on. It doesn't slip, no flavor, the rose scent is light. It's been about 4 months, and the improvement is remarkable. I haven't woken with bloody lips in months! Survived a Wisconsin winter! There is still a ton of product left. The downside, you need either your finger or a cosmetic spatula to put the product on, so you cannot share, as the risk of bacteria is high. It is likely advisable to replace as often as your eyeshadow or gel foundation, but the price, I will likely use it much longer. It is expensive, but I love it. If regular chapstick and exfoliating keep your lips smooth and comfortable, this will be a waste of money for you. I think you notice your lips looking a little plumper and the lines will certainly lessen, but I don't think that is enough to justify the splurge. If, like me, you either live in a dry area, or suffer from consistent dry, cracking lips, this is definitely worth it. The first time I exfoliate my lips after using this for about a month, the dead skin just peels off in one long piece, with healthy, non irritated skin underneath. Kind of gross, but with a primer, I can now wear even red lipstick without it catching dry areas5
I'm a confessed lip balm addict. For more years than I care to mention, I've purchased 100's of tubes, tins, jars, etc... of lip products, all with the hope of finding the perfect product. Well, I am here to say, that my search is finally over. After using By Terry Baume De Rose one time, I am hooked. Yes, it may be a little pricey, but it is worth every penny. Especially when you consider the $$$ I wasted in the past, purchasing other brands. If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend you try this product!5
This super hydrating balm will leave your lips heavy with moisture. This balm fills in any lip lines creating a youthful pout.5
It is a bit pricey, but it is well worth the money. I use it every time my lips get slightly dry and it fixes it immediately. Best product I've bought in a long time5
I wanted to love this because of the raves I heard about it and the price tag but it is nothing more than a rose scented lip balm. :-( Using neosporin lip balm is better than the Baume de Rose and it only costs about $3. I am hesitant to try any other By Terry products now. If I could return this I would.1
Less than impressed by this lackluster brand. I figured for $60, I'd at least be pleasantly surprised by either the product or the housing. Sadly, I was disappointed by both. The product itself is sticky. I've seen better $2 lip balms. The top of the pot is silver painted PLASTIC. The bottom is glass...why not make the top metal?? Instead of just looking like metal?! For $60 a company definitely should be able to at least do that. Overall, don't buy this. It's overhyped and honestly I like Burts Bees lip balm much better. Try the coconut and pear.2
