We used to get frustrated that smoky eye tutorials didn't take the spectrum of eye shapes into account (after all, were a diverse bunch). Turns out we weren't alone. After nine years of research examining thousands of faces, the makeup pros at Smashbox narrowed it down to six common eye shapes found throughout the world: almond, round, upturned, downturned, monolid, and hooded. They applied their findings to this universal neutral palette, which comes complete with a guide to help you identify your eye shape and master three flattering looks for it (day, night, and defined). The top has seven shimmery shades and on the bottom, you'll find seven matte hues, ranging from nudes to blacks. Oh, and there's also a double-sided brush, a built-in mirror, and a travel-size Full Exposure Mascara.
but only a few that I would wear. I am very light skinned and the dark shakes look too harsh on me... so it's not really beneficial to have the entire palette. The bronzes and browns are great though. Very pretty. I liked being able to try them out.3
This is one of the better samples i have received. I am still tinkering around trying to figure out my eye shape, but i love the neutral colors!4
THe colors are amazing! right up there with the naked eyeshadows by urban decay5
Was a little unsure about this sample but tried it & liked it. The colors are colors I usually wear so that was great. And it didn't smudge or collect in my creases as much as some other shadows can. Look forward to trying a bunch of different looks:)5
I am a huge fan of smash box eyeshadows. I'm just not too thrilled with this palette. I feel that it should have more pigment in each of the colors. It seems you need to really pack it on by patting into the outer corners to create a proper smokey eye look.3
I liked the colors and I liked the way the product applied but the sample was not my favorite. It was a bit tough to use.4
I own this palette already but I received a sample in my February box. It is a neutrals palette with some shimmery shades. I find the major problem with the shimmery shades is that the shimmer falls out. Unless you use a hardcore eye primer like Limecrime or Urban Decay; the shimmer disappears. Now I did really like the little double sided brush that it came with. It is a great blender brush. The palette also comes with a set of directions for people who don't really know how to do eyeshadow for their eye shape. Since I am a professional makeup artist my opinion is a little critical but I don't really agree with everything the directions tell you to do. However it will help you get started and more comfortable with smokey eyes.4
I love the set up of this palette. A full row of all matte shades and a full row of all shimmer shades. And they range from cool to warm. My only complaint is the color payoff of the lighter shimmer shades. They tend to be more sheer. The color can be intensified a little when used wet. Still a great palette to own4
great color pay off ( except I found the matte black a little chalky looking). i like how it gives you a lot of good neutral shades for everyday and available in matte and shimmery shades. Reminds me A LOT of the lorac pro palette. I probably won't buy this just because I love my Naked Palettes and that's all i really need.4
I was happy to see I was able to try both Matte and Shimmer shadows by Smashbox. I really stay away from glitter/shimmery shadows as a rule due to age and comfort zone. Because I knew I was going to write a review, I went ahead and tried the shimmer ones. I didn't like the look on me but I have to say they went on smoothly, good coverage and lasted about eight and a half hours before I needed a touch up. I did however love the Matte colors.5
