As soon as I saw this product on Birchbox, I had to order. Before giving my review, I wanted to use this for some time to see if it helped my scalp issues without stripping my fresh hair color (dark brown with violet undertones.)
The verdict: Yes, it's better than I expected, and No, it didn't strip my hair color one bit, even when I'd lather, rinse, AND repeat.
A few years ago, I developed mild to moderate eczema l that only affects my scalp, mostly around my hairline, and at worst, would creep its way down the back of my neck. Ugh. I get an itchy scalp with flakes, but it isn't dandruff. Just very dry.
So, enter Briogeo Scalp Revival.
Let me warn you: the packaging is a pain in the butt to use while in the shower. You have to unscrew the top, take off the plastic lid, and scoop the shampoo out with your hand. To avoid getting shower water into the jar, I had to put the glob of shampoo on top of my head and quickly replace the lid and screw the top back on. That is the reason I docked the review by one star. The shampoo is thick and a bit gritty, but it can surely come out of a regular shampoo bottle.
This shampoo feels soooo good to scrub into my scalp. It smells great, and certainly did not dry out my hair. This is perfect for getting a clean slate, to get out thick styling products, and not just a scalp purifier, it leaves your hair soft and light.
I had to use a conditioner afterwards, though, because I have very dry and porous hair. This shampoo would be perfect for anyone with an oily scalp.
I've been flake-free and haven't had a bad eczema flare-up since. I alternate between this and my usual sulfate free shampoo and conditioner.
