Birchbox Breakdown

Aside from a shower cap’s important function of protecting hair from the frizzy side effects of water exposure, they tend to get a bad reputation when it comes to style. They’re either clear (yawn) or have a cheesy pattern (ick). But this chic and colorful version is changing the game. With its knotted, turban-inspired design and eye-catching patterns, it’s even sophisticated enough to wear outdoors by the pool or on the beach. Plus, the cap is comprised of quick-dry fabric, features water-resistant lining, and is stretchy, so it molds snugly to your head shape.

How to Use

Gather up your hair and slip it under the cap, taking care to ensure every last strand is covered. It can also be worn to protect the hairline when applying and removing makeup.

For cuteness, this shower cap gets 10 stars, but for functionality, it deserves 0 stars! It slips off (I do not have a big head or a lot of hair), and even when I manage to keep it on, my hair and scalp end up saturated with water from the shower because it is not waterproof. The best I can do with this is use it for deep conditioning.

Hard to put on

I couldn't get this to work for me. It was impossible to put on the turban without smashing down my hair. I ended up having to push too much hair back in the turban, and I still ended up with hair outside the cap.

So glad mine was free with purchase

The good: It's super cute. So cute, I'm tempted to very, very gently rip out the inner liner and wear it out. The company sells just turbans too, so it's functionally plausible with a good seam ripper.

The bad: I have short hair and a small head and my ear length hair still ends up wet. It's big on me and the inner liner has no grip to keep it in place or any way to form a moisture barrier. Also, the v-shaped design of the cap in the front means you either only wash 75% of your face or you have to move the cap around in the shower, again getting your hair wet in the process.

I like the idea of having one pretty, high-end shower cap, so I'm trying out the competition Shhhowercap (yep, that spelling is correct). Fingers crossed.

So cute

I love using hair masks and scalp treatments. These fun treatments tend to need time to do their thing. I wanted a shower cap and this one is stylish and does the job. A shower cap turbin? Why not!
