Popping the top on the sample and inhaling the incredible the full bodied scent that both soothed and invigorated immediately sold me on the product. Actually using it the next day for a shave with a straight razor... Bar none the best shave ever. The cream was fluffy but not too light and applied to my entire face with ease when only using the minimum I thought was necessary. The cooling sensation was immediate and very intense (not eye burning intense). It felt so incredible I walked around the house with it applied for 10-15 minutes just to enjoy the cooling sensation. Finally the shave... My goodness the shave. I have extremely fine hairs that tend to in grow very easily. My skin is extremely sensitive... The cream created a smooth ride for the razor while also armoring my sensitive skin. Days 2 and 3, I have zero shave bumps or ingrown hairs. I couldn't be more thrilled with this product and will be using it regularly.
Would highly recommend. Excellent smell and leaves skin feeling very soft after a shave. Look forward to purchasing more of this product.
I have very sensitive skin and the menthol component really burned and irritated my skin (and eyes). It provided no lubrication and gummed up my razor. It would be better to not use ANY product than to use this! And yes, I followed the instructions and even used pre-shave oil.
All-in-all, this will get the job done. However, it has a very thin lather I frankly just don't like. Seems like it takes more cream than necessary. I'd rather just use a brush-cream combo.
This is thick and creamy so you won't need too much (this obviously depends on the size of your man beard). It gives your skin excellent protection and moisturization during and after your shave. Combining it with a preshave oil and you can't miss with this purchase!
I have very sensitive skin and I must say I found this product very nice and it didn't cause a reaction to my skin. It helped shaving and I will definitely be buying it soon. Thank you Birchbox!
This product was terrible - it was akin to trying to shave with school paste, it was difficult to apply, and even more difficult to clean from razor. Midway through my shave, I actually rinsed my face and started over with the reliable Edge Gel.
This stuff is like Crisco. It doesn't dissolve well and it clogged up my razor. I've never had a shave cream do this but it completely rendered a perfectly good razor useless by lodging the blade full of hair and gook that would not come out. From reading the reviews I realize I am not the only one that had this problem. This stuff should work fine with old-style barber's razor (the kind you can kill yourself with if you make a mistake) but it is completely incompatible with modern razors.
There are two perspectives to look at this product.
First to those of us who still use the over-the-counter foam in a can shaving cream.
For you, this product is definitely worth trying. It is good enough to convince you just how bad foam in a can is.
To people who have been around the block before, this product is just bad. At best it is a stepping stone between foam in a can and full on badger brush ritual.
-Waaaay too thick and clingy. Yeah, it leaves you feeling smooth, but that is because the residue is still stuck to your face. (had to completely wash my face again after shaving to get it off. For good products, a quick rinse is sufficient.)
-Murder on razors & sinks. I used this once and had to spend a good 3 minutes cleaning all of the little clumps of the stuff out of my sink and from between my razor's blades.
All in all, this is a mediocre stepping stone. If you are going to go to this much effort for a nice shave, you should just bite the bullet and go for the brush and all. Trust me, it is worth it.
The product is fine, but the oil in the shaving cream clogs up the razor during usage and I had to constantly run hot water to get the blades clean for more use.
