Birchbox Breakdown

We were hesitant to stray from our trusty pencil liners, but once we tried pressed powder, we fell for it hook, line, and sinker. The versatile matte powder duo offers ample room for creativity—make eyes as dark and smoldering or soft and light as you like, or somewhere in between, in the same compact.

How to Use

Dip a wet liner brush into the preferred shade and mix around to lift powder from the compact. Swirl the brush more if you want a thicker, creamier paste. Then deposit a small amount onto your lid starting close to the lash line. Use the tip of the bristles for a finer line; use the edge of the brush for a thicker application. To create depth, apply the Salt shade to the inner eyelid. Then add some Coal the further you draw out.

Fantastic Two-Tone Mod Look

Unlike the other reviewers here, I don't use this duo for smokey eyes. Instead, I prefer using both colors to layer crisp, clean lines for a dramatic (but minimalist) retro-styled look with a winged tip. And the styles of application provide plenty of opportunity for variation. I've layered top lid only with black under white all along the lid to a slight wingtip, black outer lid with a white inner lid, black top lid with white along the lower-lid waterline, or black and white sweeping in opposite directions along the upper lid, not to mention either/or on their own.

Although significantly trickier to apply than a no-hassle liner pencil, this is easily the smoothest and cleanest cake formula eyeliner I've yet tried. With a good application brush and a few practices tries, it shouldn't present too many problems for a new user. Highly recommended.

Love this stuff!!
Purchased

I used the white powder in this duo as a shadow, and OMG!!
It glided on so smooth and lasted ALL day!!
I ran several errands, took a nap, then went out for the night and did not have to reapply!
I used the black on top of my pencil liner as a seal and it did not flake or fall out.
I will be ordering more of this!!

Gorgeous!

This duo is amazing! These are two of my most used colors when doing a smokey eye look. A must have in my shadow collection!

A little tricky to use, but still great

I was apprehensive about trying something other than my failsafe felt-tip winged-eyeliner. I fell in love with smokey eye because of this set. Especially using a touch of the white ("salt") in the inner corners of my eyes for a pop.

This is easy to travel with and won't dry out like liquid liner pens. I can use any brush for different results and control the color intensity.
