Birchbox Breakdown

Two things we get little-kid excited about: glitter and giving a snow globe a good shake. (We can’t help ourselves whenever we see one.) This all-in-one kit lets us make festive, tree-filled, and, yes, glittery snow-globes for ourselves. Plus with its everything-is-included, instructions-are-provided approach to DIY, we can get crafty without bewildering treks to specialty stores—and in less time than it takes us to watch It’s a Wonderful Life.

How to Use

Match your trees to jars and glue the trees to the inside of the jar lids. Then fill each jar with water, plus two capfuls of glycerin, and add a sprinkling of glitter. Once the glue has dried, slowly lower tree into jar and tighten the lid, then super glue the rim shut. Shake and enjoy! For full step-by-step instructions, watch this video.

Cute Idea; Poor Execution

I was really excited to make these little jars, even thought that perhaps I would order a few extra for presents . . I am glad I didn't! The concept is cute, but there are (in my opinion) two major flaws:
1. The plain green trees (not the snowy ones) are fuzzy, and when water is added to the jar, the fuzz comes off in the water and makes the water look dingy and dirty. Even after giving them a good rinse and a little scrub, I still had the problem that the dark green fuzz discolored the water.
2. There are no written directions, only a card that directs you to a YouTube video. I can see the purpose from a marketing standpoint, but it would have been much better to have the actual directions.

So, out of 3 jars, I was able to keep one that actually looks nice. 2 stars.
