Birchbox Breakdown

Sometimes wrangling our curls seems so challenging, we wish we could send our locks to hair obedience school. Luckily, Miss Jessie’'s (aka the curl-whisperer) trains hair to behave itself. Exhibit A: This gentle wide-toothed comb. Use it to thoroughly detangle kinked strands while minimizing breakage (the main cause of frizz) and keeping your ringlets intact.

How to Use

This Detangling Comb is great to use in conjunction with your favorite Miss Jessie’s conditioning treatment. After letting the treatment sit, rinse most of it out, and then gently run this comb through your hair, detangling section by section. Follow with your favorite styling product. Tip: After 10 uses, care for your comb by washing it in warm water and detergent.

Hate is a strong word, but I really don't like it.
Purchased

This comb has the teeth of Jaws. I definitely will not be using it on my head or purchasing another one. I may carry it in my purse as a weapon though. Seriously, when I say Teeth of Jaws, I mean SHARP enough that if you stabbed someone with this comb, there's a good possibility they would die.

Thin (if not Flimsy) but Effective
Purchased

While this detangling comb doesn't exactly have the heft that I'm accustomed to having (and needing) in most of my hair combs, it's certainly well designed and effective at isolating the ringlets before product application. While the widely spaced teeth are gentle on the curls, preventing frizz, the teeth themselves are quite sharp and (if you're not careful) can scratch the scalp. Still, this was just what I needed for detangling while conditioning.

Cheap and smells!
Purchased

I expected this to be a thick material, it is not. It's flimsy and sharp. Also it smells like fuel or something awful! I bought this to replace a comb I've had for 15 years, that I use after washing my hair. But I'm glad I kept old faithful because this comb is absolute trash.

Sharp teeth!
Purchased

Keep in mind I have frizzy, wavy hair as opposed to true curly hair. I like that the teeth are separated enough to get through a head of unruly hair - but unfortunately, I wouldn't call it gentle, as the description claims. The teeth are actually sharp! I have to be very careful not to scrape against my scalp because it hurts. I don't have this problem with other combs.

Great for tangles!
Purchased

This comb is wonderful for tangles. The bristles are strong and effective for combing through the toughest knots. I would recommend this to anyone.
