Birchbox Breakdown

Created by the beauty icon who launched Hard Candy (and sparked our polish obsession in the 90’s), Smith & Cult strikes that perfect balance between gorgeous and edgy (just look at their shade names to see what we mean). This covetable bordeaux polish is vibrant, chip-resistant, and 8-free—meaning the formula is free of not-so-nice ingredients like dibutyl phthalate, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, and triphenyl phosphate.

Start with your favorite base coat, then apply two to three coats of color. Finish with a top coat for extra shine and protection.

Great polish with lacquer-like depth

I used one coat of nail strengthener from another brand as a base coat, followed by three thin coats of Lovers Creep, and finished off with one thin layer of top coat. I let my nails dry a good length of time (15 minutes at least) between coats to be on the safe side. This mani has been going strong for four days with zero chipping. The color isn't quite opaque, even with three coats, but I love the depth of color that the translucency gives--it's a super-rich dark blood red that will be especially perfect in the fall and winter. I'm getting ready to purchase more Smith & Cult lacquers because for me, the quality is worth the cost.
As a note: the pretty-but-bulky top pips right off to reveal a reasonable and small black twist-off application cap. You don't need to juggle that big metallic thing while painting your nails.

Amazing nail polish

I'm an avid OPI nail polish user, but this stuff definitely rivals. It's been 4 days since I applied and there is no chips! The color is also to die for, perfect for fall and winter

Want To Love This But...

The color of this is absolutely gorgeous, one of my favorite types of nail colors, but the formula is so watery it takes so many (4+) coats to get it opaque that I'm not sure it's worth the $$$. The packaging is beautiful but at first I thought it was damage, didn't realize that Smith & Cult do the dent on purpose, so that through me off at first. I honestly would not recommend this but every time I wear it I love the color but I don't wear if frequently enough, because of how long it takes to pain my nails with so many coats, to justify the price.
