I absolutely love my Stephanie Johnson jewelry case!! However, I must admit that I debated quite a lot before buying this. So here is my Pro/Con list of the item now that I have used it, which can hopefully enable you to make a more informed decision when/if you choose to purchase!
-It is perfect for traveling, especially around the holidays.
-The pattern, sequins, and colors are good for any season, making it a year-round travel case.
-The quality of the item is top notch, down to the detailed fabrics, which look even more beautiful in person. Quality can also be seen in the outside zipper pull, the pewter velvety-soft interior, the gold buttons, etc. This is my third Stephanie Johnson piece and I am always very impressed with the quality. She seems to put at least one button on everything, and I've never felt let down or questioned the integrity of her products. :)
-The item was very thoughtfully put together and maximized space while still keeping protection in mind (keeping jewelry from scratching other pieces). They really couldn't have added any more jewelry-holding features unless they made the item bigger/able to expand!
-Jewelry will stay secure and necklaces won't tangle thanks to some of the great features in the back (see pictures on site). That section would be best for dainty or long thin necklaces that are prone to knotting up.
-Any jewelry of which you're especially protective over (i.e. diamond stud earrings, special rings, etc.) can be secured in the inside zipper pocket.
-The product is compact and easy to spot in your duffle/tote bag, purse, or suitcase!
-It makes a great, luxurious, and useful gift for yourself (or others!)
-Let's start with the obvious. The price of the item (even with any sort of Birchbox discount code or GWP) still leaves this as a relatively expensive item for its size. Regardless, this product is probably always going to be more expensive than the alternative classic roll-up jewelry cases. Despite all of the "pros", the price tag (even with my 20% off coupon code) caused this item to lose a full star.
-The earring section is kind of puzzling. There are two rows of only 7 holes across...I can't stop wondering why they didn't do an even 8 holes across. This is problematic if you have a lot of dangly earrings, as the organization of them will be a little more difficult because they work best on the bottom row only. I will be using a leather punch tool to create two additional holes where there is space. It would have made more sense to have holes arranged in a 2x8 formation rather than 2x7.
-I don't think you could truly stuff this item full and still be able to zip it closed. The design does not allow for expanding the product much beyond what it is when it is empty. I wish it could expand at least a LITTLE more than it does. Because I can't do half stars, I would consider taking a half star off for this and the other "cons", but none are a big enough deal to take a second full star off!
-It can't fit all of the jewelry you'll likely want to bring on a trip. HOWEVER, I don't think this is a big deal. Anyone buying this shouldn't expect it to hold it all. My thought is that items like statement necklaces, bracelets, cuffs, etc. are all items that are unlikely to tangle up, and are not small enough to be easily lost. Therefore, use a small makeup bag (or two!) for those items! In this product, I was looking for something to contain and manage the small pieces and those that tangle easily, and this delivered.
And because I like to end on a "pro", I'll add that the price tag might not be too steep for some people depending on how much use they'll get out of it. For the frequent traveler, the utility they'd get from this item could definitely justify the purchase of a durable, high-quality jewelry case like this one.
