Birchbox Breakdown

The original Beachwaver® changed the way we style our hair. At the press of a button, the rotating curling iron winds sections of hair around its heated ceramic rod and stops as soon as you let go. This updated version has a home button that returns the clamp to its starting position and enlarged arrows to choose the direction of your curl. The "Fast/Slow" switch lets you change the rotation speed and depending on how thick or thin your hair, you can heat adjust the heat setting from 290˚F all the way up to 410˚F.

How to Use

Turn on the iron. Set the digital temperature control to your desired heat level. Use the “Fast/Slow” switch to select your curling speed. Clamp the end of a piece of hair and press the arrow buttons to make the rod rotate—no manual effort required. Once hair is wrapped all the way around the rod, unclamp to set the curl free. Press the home button to reset the clamp. Repeat across your head, then finger-comb for loose, natural waves.

Easy, fast to use, curls stay overnight

The beachwaver is by far the easiest I have ever used. It does everything it says it does, and the curls end up looking great even without hair spray (I've never had to use it with this iron!). The only thing is, be VERY careful about accidentally pressing other buttons while squeezing the clamp to let your hair out, ESPECIALLY the home button. I've had this happen twice and it is not particularly pleasant. The iron doesn't register this as an error (as it is supposed to do if the user commits an error) and ends up yanking your hair and giving you the risk of burning yourself as the iron rotates back to the home position because you can't stop the iron from rotating after you hit the home button like you can with the left/right arrow buttons.

Also, since this iron gives a very even curl, I've only had to hold the curl for a mere 4-5 seconds at 310 degrees with my straight, long, thick hair while with other irons I'll have to hold the curl for over 10 seconds at about 400 degrees. The curls will hold out even after sleeping on them, and look effortlessly wavy with some sea salt spray (Harvey Prince Sea Salt Mist) for volume the next day! Best second day hair ever!

Just adjust your temperature to lower than you would with a normal curling iron because it does distribute heat more thoroughly than a normal iron, and be careful with hitting buttons when you take out each curl and the beachwaver will be your new best friend!

I have long think hair. I have used numerous curling irons in the past but because of the weight of my hair the curls do not hold for more than 30 minutes even when using hair spray. I figured I would try this one because of all the great reviews. It took me about 30 minutes to get the curls in my hair, holding for approx 12 seconds per section and my hair turned out beautiful. I used Oribe Dry Texturizing spray and the curls lasted all day. I woke up the next morning and the curls were still there. All I needed was a little touch up. I am so excited that this actually works and I would say it is well worth the price.

Excellent Curling Iron!

Okay, I am a novice with curling irons. I have medium-long hair that is wavy/frizzy and color-treated. I was looking for a tool that would give me a curl that lasts 2 days to reduce the amount of heat I put on my hair day to day. The Beachwaver S1 is SO GOOD at doing this. I can control the temperature and get a consistent, beautiful wave in very little time. I use a little hairspray and at the end of the day sleep with my curls pulled up on top of my head on a silk pillowcase...I wake up with curls for day 2 that only need a little texture spray and are good to go. I have not tried the original iron, but the S1 meets my needs and I can't imagine ever using a different iron.

Not the curls I was expecting

So after reading tons of reviews and watching videos, I just knew that I had to have this.

I've been using it daily for about two weeks now and am not seeing the curls that I'd like to. Don't get me wrong, my hair still looks beautiful, but just not as curly as I was expecting. I'll keep working with it and maybe I'll figure it out eventually.

Beachwaver S1

I was a bit nervous about paying for this product since I never seem to have success with curling irons but this is the easiest curling iron I've ever used.
